Describe the structure and function of alveoli.

The function of the alveoli is to allow the lungs and the blood exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen during breathing in and breathing out.

The alveoli are bolloon-shaped structures and their walls are very thin for easy exchange of oxygen and CO2 between it and the very small blood vessels called capillaries.
