Before urine analysis, what are some nursing interventions and instructions that can be given to a patient?
Urine analysis is a diagnostic tool for screening a variety of diseases and disorders. The analysis is done by utilizing a reagent test strip immersed in a fresh urine sample leading to a chemical reaction producing results for analysis and evaluation. Nursing interventions should be based on advocating for frequent urine analysis to patients to detect diabetes mellitus and urinary tract infection that is affected a large population globally. The urine analysis is only done by using a fresh urine sample collected by following the instructions from the nurse, the instructions given to the patient (McKean et al., 2017). The sample should be collected at midstream by utilizing the clean catch method as follow;
1. Cleaning of the urinary opening both the tip of the penis and labia before collection.
2. The first stream should be done into the toilet and collect the sample midstream.
3. Collect at least 30-60ml into the collection container and complete the urination into the toilet after sample collection.
4. Once the sample is collected, it is delivered to the laboratory for diagnosis.
