Question #60634

If the concentration of glucose in the water outside of a cell is higher than the concentration inside

Expert's answer

If the concentration of glucose in the water outside of a cell is higher than the concentration inside, the solution is said to be hypertonic. As we know, glucose is a molecule that can move across the cell membrane. Because of diffusion molecules move from high concentration to low concentration, so the glucose molecules outside the cell will move through the membrane to inside of the cell. The water will then have a tendency to leave the cell.
