Archaeologists find the pelvis of a primitive human and are able to identify the sex, the relative age, and some physical characteristics of the individual. How is this possible from only the pelvis?

Diagnostic Criteria. There are several diagnostic criteria for differentiating a male from a female pelvis: The female pelvis is larger and broader than the male pelvis, which is taller (owing to a higher iliac crest), narrower, and more compact. The distance between the ischium bones is small in males.
