The age limit for males to grow by height is 18 to 20 years with the peak height mostly being in 16 years, mainly during puberty. Past this age no significant increase in height is observed even if one hits puberty late. This is caused by the fusion of growth plates shortly after puberty leading to no further growth, because their long bones cannot grow longer. There may be exceptions to this rule whereby some males may continue growing in height because due to persistence of the growth plates to close. The median height for every male is mainly determined by several factors such as nutrition, genetics, type of labour one engages in, medical conditions and sleep.
