Answer to Question #316930 in Genetics for Nhlonipho Manganyi

Question #316930

A herpetologist finds an anuran which has a green hue. This is the dominant

colour trait and therefore the genotype for colour can be either homozygous

(GG) or heterozygous (Gg). In this species of frog body colour that is brown

suggests a recessive phenotype and therefore this genotype would have to be

homozygous for the recessive allele (gg). G represents the dominant allele and g represents the

recessive allele. Using selective breeding techniques, how would the researcher determine the

genotype of the original green anuran? Explain how the results of this would help the researcher

identify the genotype or the original green anuran.

the researcher will determine the genotype of the original green anuran using the first law of inheritance known as the dominance law. Every character in this rule is regulated by distinct units known as factors, which exist in pairs. If two individuals are heterozygous for the same gene, one will always dominate the other.

If the homozygous yellow seed plant(YY) is crossed with the heterozygous yellow seed plant, the cross will be made as follows:

The results will help the reservation identify the genotype because Genotype ratio: 50%GG, 50%Gg and Phenotypic ratio: 100% green.
