Question #121342

A person with type A blood has a child with a person who has type AB blood. Is it possible that the child can have type B blood? Explain using a Punnett square.

Expert's answer

Yes , it’s possible if person with type A blood has a genotype IAj0

IAj0 and IAIB

So if we draw Punnett square we get such offspring

F 1: IAIA , IAIB , IAj0 , IBj0

So we have probability 25% to get child with type blood B( IBj0 )

But of person with type A blood has genotype IAIA , their child can not have type B blood , because of:

IAIA and IAIB

Offspring has genotypes IAIA or IAIB
