A popular example of industrial melanism was peppered moth ( Biston betularia).
There were white and black varieties one got preyed upon and the other was benefited by its dark colour,my question is did they (the white and the dark forms) belong to the same species (Biston betularia) or different ?
Punctuated equilibrium : It is a theory in evolutionary biology which proposes that once a species appear in the fossil record they become stable, showing little net evolutionary change for most of their geological history.
I could not understand a portion of an article I was reading. It was about biological species concept and it said ' There is difficulty in the application of biological species concept in those situations in which speciation is incomplete (evolutionary intermediacy)'.

Can you please explain why is it difficult to apply the concept (in context to animal world). Is it because interbreeding exists in the not-fully-speciated demes?
What are the limitations of evolutionary species concept?
