Question #251048

What effect does insulin have on glucose in the blood?

Expert's answer

Insulin increases the permeability of plasma membranes to glucose and other macronutrients, activates key enzymes of glycolysis, stimulates the formation of glycogen from glucose in the liver and muscles, enhances the synthesis of fats and proteins. All these lead to a decrease in the concentration of glucose in the blood, its transfer to the tissues.
