They are composed of proteins,lipids and carbohydrates.Different parts of the membrane perform different tasks depending on how they are specialised.

The importance of knowing structure of cell membrane are as follows;

First,cell membrane diseases are life threatening disorders which are genetic in nature.Examples are Hyalline membrane disease, Cystic Fibrosis and Alzheimer's Disease.

Secondly,it helps to understand the composition of cell membrane.

Third,it helps one to understand the functioning of cell membrane.How the structures are specialised to perform their functions.

Fourth,it helps to a ascertain whether it has abnormalities or not.

Lastly,it enables one to understand and appreciate the importance of cell membrane.
