Aerobic breakdown of sugar yields 2870 kJ of energy per mole, whereas anaerobic breakdown of sugar yields no more than 210 kJ per mole. Explain this drastic difference in energy in terms of the processes that occur in aerobic vs. anaerobic processes. *

Oxidation of glucose is incomplete in anaerobic process while on the other hand glucose is completely oxidised. Due to the incomplete oxidation of glucose less energy is released during anaerobic process as compared with the aerobic process.
