Palisade and spongy tissue.

Palisade mesophyll – layer of closely fitted, columnar cells one or two cells deep, which contain many chloroplasts for photosynthesis.

Spongy mesophyll – layer of more spharical cells with fewer chloroplasts than the palisade layers. There are many air-spaces, allowing the rapid diffusion of gases, including water vapor.
