Cellular membranes are made up of glycerophospholipids; glycerol molecules, fatty acids and phosphate group. Glycerol has three carbon molecule and function as a backbone of the cell membrane lipids. Structurally, fatty acids are attached to the first and second carbon while phosphate groups are attached to the third carbon of glycerol.
