Why is the first enzyme in TCA cycle called citrate synthase and not citrate synthetase?

Citrate synthase catalyzes the condensation reaction of the acetate residue from acetyl coenzyme A and a molecule of oxaloacetate to form the citrate. However, no ATP is used in this reaction. Synthetases use ATP by definition, therefore, this enzyme is a synthase
