How many ATPs are produced from xylose by B.subtilis aerobically ?
The sugar which contains only 5 carbon atoms and an aldehyde group is termed xylose. In Bacillus subtilis bacteria because of the high demand for ATP by its transporter and for its phosphorylation the total ATP generation is less when compared to glucose. It generates only 0.67 ATP from one molecule of xylose while from glucose 2ATP molecules are generated.
