Question #164381

Based on your understanding, answer these questions: i. At a free space, two charged particles with equals magnitude but opposite charge are moving in uniform magnetic field at the same velocity, v. Discuss and compare the acceleration and component of magnetic forces acting on these particles. ii. i. The magnitude of acceleration will be the same because the absolute value of charge, mass, and the field is the same. The force (Lorentz's force), however, will be applied in the opposite direction for one of the charges compared to another. Thus, the acceleration will be equal in magnitude of opposite direction.

ii. Because the cathode ray tube emits electrons that hit a special surface that emits light as a result of the interaction between the surface and the electrons. The magnetic field distorts the trajectories of electrons by the action of Lorentz's force. Every electron is a point charge and, therefore, is subjected to the action of Lorentz's force.
