Answer to Question #267243 in Electric Circuits for adit

Question #267243

The equivalent resistance of two resistors R1 and R2 is given by Req = R1 + R2 and Req =R1R2/R1+R2

when they are connected in series and parallel respectively. If R1 = 22.0 Ω ±

5% and R2 = 47.0 ± 5% , find the maximum error in the calculation of their equivalent

resistance when they are connected in series and parallel.

serial connection

δser=max(δ1,δ2)\delta_{ser}= max(\delta_1,\delta_2)

where δser\delta_{ser} - caclulation error of serial connection, δ1\delta_1 and δ2\delta_2 are calculation errors of R1 and R2 respectively.

δser=max(5%,5%)\delta_{ser}= max(5 \%,5 \%)

δser=5%\delta_{ser}= 5 \%

parallel connection

δpar=δ1+δ2+max(δ1,δ2)=5%+5%+max(5%,5%)=15%\delta_{par}=\delta_{1}+\delta_{2} + max(\delta_{1},\delta_{2})=5\%+5\%+max(5\%,5\%)=15\%
