A student tries to determine the heat of solution of NH4Cl in an open container at room

temperature (250), will the value obtained be less or more than the actual value? Why?

The value obtained will be less than the actual value because if the volume is not constant the system will lose a part of the total energy exerted as heat to the surrounding areas or universe thus we need to have a calorimeter or device that allows the solution process to occur without energy or heat loss and measure this value accurately.
