The population of bacteria may go down at first because the bacteria would be trying to adapt to the environment and in the process some may be eliminated. They would then transform the permeability of their membranes to prevent the antibiotics from difussing into them which prevents furtherreduction in their number.Additionally, they may also change their targets so that the antibiotics may not be able to recognize and destroy them.
